Imagine a brand built for skin of colour? At Jay & Co Beauty our mission is to empower skin of colour who are often excluded out of the beauty conversation, to embrace their alter-ego skin! I remember the imposter syndrome I felt as one of the only few black people to be working in a beauty industry and how the lack of internal and external representation affected my confidence. Darker skin types often respond differently to triggers like UV, inflammation and acne resulting in unfavourable side effects that are almost always guaranteed to darker skin types.
To begin, through formulating products with science-backed and natural ingredients, we ensure that our products are effective and also gentle to the skin. Targeting those stubborn skincare challenges we experience the most. So many skincare products still focus on the specific needs of those with white skin – and so commercially available skincare selections represent a very narrow worldview and experience.
